Police Investigate After Man Found Fatally Shot Near Shelter

Police are looking for the person who shot and killed a man near a homeless shelter and public housing development in Chinatown. Police say they found 33-year-old Rashaun Nicholson at around 7 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the head outside a homeless shelter on Catherine Street.

Feds Give Fung Wah Buses Green Light to Resume Operations

Chinatown bus operator Fung Wah is eyeing a return to New York early next year, after the federal government gave it the green light to get back on the road earlier this month. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration "permitted limited operations to prove they can safely transport passengers and protect the motoring public" on Dec. 11 after Fung Wah put new operation safeguards in place and passed multiple inspections, according to a statement by the agency.

If I remember the dates correctly, during the late 1970s, decades after the Communists took control of the Chinese mainland, power shifted outside of China, as the Communists destroyed the local gangs, some of whose members emigrated to New York. Wars raged in New York's Chinatown in 1977 between Chinese gangs centering on Mott Street When Congress changed the Chinese Exclusion Act allowing more Chinese into the U.S., competition was fierce, work was hard to come by, so Chinese men organized street gangs modeled after the gangs that the Communists destroyed on the mainland.

JPMorgan Chase is demanding a huge handout from the government, even as it continues to pare its workforce in the city, for building a new headquarters in Hudson Yards, according to The New York Times , which reports that the financial firm is seeking more $1 billion in city and state concessions to build a $6.5 billion corporate campus. The state is reportedly putting together a counter offer, with deputy mayor Alicia Glen telling the paper that "there's no way that the city would entertain a demand for a billion dollars in additional incentives at Hudson Yards."
